Repurposed

There are so many uses for old furniture pieces that are out of style or found in thrift stores or curbside freebies!
Here are some ideas I found searching today that I thought were excellent ideas and easy to D.I.Y.

I found these here.

Cute little dog or cat bed!

I love chairs and this is a really cute idea.
This would also be cute in a bathroom with towels and some lotion.

Great idea for an old sewing table
I have one of these and I just saw one at a thrift store. Need to run out there tomorrow to see if it is still there!  I love this idea!

What do you have at home that you can repurpose?

Renewable Energy

My husband works for Suzlon Wind Energy Company and he does a lot of work with the high schools, Jr. Colleges and Colleges to educate the students about the industry.

He built a huge training facility in Elgin, IL. It features a full size head of a turbine and it is completely functional.  The blades, of course are too long to have in there so they are cutoff but they do rotate and spin.

I am very proud of his accomplishments over the past 7 years with the company.

What to Recycle

On the topic of recycling I always wonder "What exactly can be recycled?".
With so many new containers and plastics I can't but help to think that some of this stuff will not breakdown or will take a lifetime to.
I did some research just to see what I could easily refer to and get the job done.
I found these handy charts to post on the frig so the kids can be involved also.

Print them for yourselves to use!

It is a good idea to make yourself aware of companies that recycle in your area.
Just a few that came up in a google search for me:

Can anyone say Guardians of the Galaxy? I loved Groot in the movie and the name fits this company! They offer services to Residential, Industrial, Commercial and Construction Industries.
You can find a very comprehensive Residential Recycling "How To" best practices by clicking here.

This company actually will buy your plastics. Click on the name to find out more!

They service Home, Business, Government and Planet (educational). They even have an App for your phone!

I hope this provides you with some interesting information and gets you on the ball to start recycling today!!!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!
I am wanting to share so many ideas about recycling, repurposing, and repairing that I think this will be the right platform for an exciting journey!
Our world has become such a waste site that I think it is so important to start being very conscious of the things we can do to keep things out of landfills.

I am using my God given talents to think outside of the box by painting, rethinking, reusing, etc. items that no longer have a need by others. I scour thrift shops, dumpster dive, drive by and pickup discarded and donated items with an idea in mind when I first see it.

You can find me most times in thrift shops (we live in Chicago so especially in the winter!). I pay very little for donated items compared to purchasing new and I'm paying my good fortunes forward by helping a cause. I do research on the establishments first to ensure that they are legitimately helping the community with their proceeds.  There are thrift stores out there with just the name but are not actually 501c3 approved. Click here to search for legit businesses!

I'm hoping to inspire others to join my passion to do my part!
Let's work together to turn this:
